Primul HOT SPOT din Barlad - la TC PUB!

1 Attachment(s)

The first HotSpot in Romania was activated in a small city, Barlad. Thanks to TC-NET a local Internet Service Provider now you can have free Internet access on the center of the city.

You can find more information about this small but brave city surfing on http://www.barlad-online.ro

We contacted CTO (Chief Technical Officer) Cristi Stangacianu to give us more details about HotSpots.

Cristi Stangacianu: "Hotspots are locations where you can have access from mobile computers (such as a laptop or a PDA) without connection cables to networked services such as the internet. Hotspots are often found near restaurants, train stations, airports, cafes, libraries and other public places.

A wireless network uses radio frequencies for the communication between computer devices and Access Points which are basically two-way radio transceivers that typically work in the 2.4 GHz (802.11b, 802.11g) or 5 GHz (802.11a) bands.

Most Wi-Fi hotspot equipment is IEEE 802.11b or IEEE 802.11g compliant and offers some level of security like WEP and/or WPA.

Many laptops come with IEEE 802.11b or IEEE 802.11g adapters built in. However, it is also possible to buy PCMCIA or USB based external adapters.

Hotspot Access Points are different from normal access points. They feature:

A captive portal where users are redirected to for authentication and payment
A payment option using credit card, Paypal, iPass etc.
A Walled Garden feature that allows free access to certain sites
Hotspot manufacturers include Cisco, Colubris, D-Link, Nomadix, SpotNet, Sputnik and Ambit.

T-Mobile Hotspot, Wayport, Surf and Sip, SurfSpot (New Zealand) and Surf2Go are Public Wireless LAN providers. Also certain PodHotSpots.

ZoneCD is a GNU/Linux LiveCD to easily set up hotspots.
"

NYT reporter: "Thank you Cristi!"

If you visit Barlad make a short visit to TC Pub an irish style place where you can use the first HotSpot in Romania.

LATER

Nu, e ceva in genul http://www.jetblue.com/wireless/wireless.html
